R/C Model Hovercraft

The model

The model is based on Mark Porters document and is a 1/10 scale Griffon 2000TDX MKII.

Construction is of light ply through out except the thrust duct which is 1/64 ply.

Dimensions are 1metre long x .5 metre wide and the weight complete is now 12lbs.

Lift motor is a cheap Johnson 680 running on an 8 cell 3000 Ni mi pack and controlled by an RF10 speed controller with reverse programmed off.

Lift prop is currently a 7x3 wooden prop cut down to 5.75 ins (140mm) and runs at 16000 rpm.

Thrust motor is also a Johnson 680 running on an 8 cell 3000 Ni mi pack and controlled by an RF10 speed controller with full forward and reverse.

Thrust prop is currently a 7x 3 wooden prop which runs at 14300 rpm.

Radio control is via a Futaba Skysport 6 on 40mhz and uses 3 channels, 1 for rudder and 2 for speed controllers.

Windows are glazed so air input ports on full size are replicated on the model.

The skirt is made from a rubberised nylon tent lining material, which is light but extremely strong and wears well against abrasion.
